ATLANTA – The Centre women's soccer team faced a ranked road challenge as the Colonels traveled south to face an Emory squad ranked no. 24 in the nation. The Colonels played the 24th-ranked Eagles tough, battling them to a 1-1 draw.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first scoring opportunity of the contest came for the Colonels as
Megan Sidaway found
Alexis Kronenthal for a blast that soared by the Emory defense and hit the back of the net for a 1-0 Centre lead.
- The host Eagles took control of play for the rest half and then began to pepper the Centre goal with shots.
Grace Dutcher stood tall in goal, turning away four Emory scoring attempts before the Eagles finally got on the board 20 minutes into the half.
- Emory stayed in control for the rest of the first half as Dutcher made three more saves to keep the score at 1-1 at the break, setting a new career high for saves in the process.
- The second half saw both defenses clamp down, resulting in reduced scoring chances. Dutcher made a couple of saves in the opening minutes to preserve the tie.
- After another clutch save by Dutcher at the 78-minute mark, the Colonels got a shot at the lead a minute later, but Emory denied the shot by
Annabel Justice and the score remained tied.
- Shots were few and far between in the final two minutes of the match, but Dutcher made a pair of key stops to stop scoring opportunities for the Eagles and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles held advantages of 31-4 in shots and 16-2 in shots on goal.
- Dutcher tied her career high with seven saves in the first half, and then added seven more in the second half to give her 14 and shatter the career high mark.
- Centre's scoring tally in the first half was the second goal of the year for Kronenthal and the first assist of the year for Sidaway.
