ATLANTA- On Saturday afternoon, Centre women's soccer traveled to Atlanta for their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference opener. Placing three goals early, the Colonels shut-out the Stormy Petrels by a score of 5-0, improving to 1-0 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels controlled the game from its opening minutes, taking three shots before the Stormy Petrels attempted one. Just 15 minutes in, on Centre's third shot attempt, senior
Megan Sidaway found the back of the net with the helper from
Riley Givens. Just ten minutes later,
Bella Nelson doubled the score deficit with the assist coming from
EJ Bryant. Nearing halftime, the Colonels tallied a third goal, this one coming from
Lily Burchett with Ava Preist assisting. Entering the halftime break, the Gold & White held a comfortable 3-0 lead over the Stormy Petrels.
-The Colonels opened the second half with the same intensity brought in the first. Less than two minutes in, Centre added another athlete to the scoring column when
Annabel Justice claimed the fourth goal unassisted.
Buckley Sparks was the fifth and final Colonel to get on the board. Owning the game's final goal, Sparks solidified Centre's 5-0 victory over SAA's Oglethorpe.

- All five of the Colonel's goals came from different athletes, Nelson, Sidaway, Burchett, Sparks, and Justice each having one apiece.
Alexis Kronenthal,
Lindsay Carr, and Nelson led the game in shots taken, each attempting three. In total, the Colonels took 18 shots while the Stormy Petrels attempted four.
- Centre had the advantage in corner kicks, owning 11 while Oglethorpe had none.
- On defense,
Grace Dutcher conducted the Colonels to their third shut-out of the season, the first in conference play. Denying the Petrels one shot taken on frame,
Grace Dutcher picked up her second win of the season.

The Colonels will return to Danville for a five-game home series. They'll first face Bob Jones on Tuesday, Sept. 26 before hosting a trio of SAA contests, Berry (Sept. 30), Hendrix (Oct. 6), and Rhodes (Oct. 8).
