Field hockey battles No. 24 Lynchburg on the road

LYNCHBURG, Va.- On Suday afternoon, the Centre field hockey closed their Virginia tour on the campus of the No. 24 ranked Lynchburg Hornets. After allowing three early goals for the Hornets, the Colonels ultimately suffered a 5-0 loss, moving to a 3-5 record.  

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS 
- The No. 24 Hornets rapidly opened the game's scoring, recording the first goal just five minutes in, adding another moments later. Already leading by two, Lynchburg claimed one additonal goal to close the period, bringing the score to Lynchburg three, Centre zero, entering period two. 

-The Hornets carried their intensity into the next quarter, tallying their fourth goal seconds into the period. For the remainder of the half, Lynchburg's offense coninued to dominate, tallying seven shots while the Colonels were unable to attempt one.  

-The game's second half mirrored the first as the Hornet's maintained their control. Recording another early goal in the period, Lynchburg strecthed their hold to five. Just after, the Colonels were able to put together their first offensive set, finding the first shot-on-goal in Jackie Rodriguez. For the reminder of the contest, Centre would find three more scoring oppourtinites but ulitmatelty, would be unable to register a goal. Holding the Hornets scorless in the final period, the Colonels fell by a score of 5-0. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- The Hornets led in shots take, having 32 to the Colonels' five. Rodriguez led Centre in shots taken with two while Reese Smith, Emily Ritchie, and Meghan Speth recorded one apiece.  

- In goal, Carlie McKenry stopped 12 of the Hornet's 17 shots on frame.  

- Lynchburg created 12 corner opportunities while Centre put togther two.  
  
UP NEXT 
The Colonels will return home after their four game road series. They'll host SAA's Rhodes College on Saturday, Sept. 30th, at 12 p.m. ET.
