Colonels down Rhodes at home

DANVILLE, Ky.- On Saturday afternoon, the Colonels took on their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rivals, Rhodes College. Finding an early, first period goal, Centre field hockey ultimately bettered the Lynx by a score of 1-0, improving to 3-0 in the SAA. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS 

- Centre set the pace early, recording a goal with their initial shot of the game. Senior Meghan Speth entered the scoring column just seven minutes in with an assisted goal. For the remainder of the opening half, the two teams nearly matched one another in offensive possessions but neither team would manage an additional goal before half.  

- Out of the break, both squads entered a 30-minute, scoreless, stalemate, both teams having successful looks but at the end of regulation, the score remained Centre one, Rhodes zero. Speth's early goal would eventually stand as the game-winning, her second of the season.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

- Centre just edged out the Lynx in shots on frame, having seven compared to their six. Speth was the game's leading scorer with one goal. Claire Martin led the game in shots taken with five, Speth following just behind her with four. 

- In goal, Carlie McKenry matched the Lynx in saves, each keeper having six stops. 

- Rhodes led in corner opportunities with ten; Centre had seven.

The Colonels will remain on South Turf for their second contest of the weekend, hosting Denison tomorrow, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. ET
