GAMBIER, Ohio – The Centre men's soccer team traveled north to face an always tough Kenyon squad in a midweek non-conference matchup. The defenses controlled the contest, with a scarcity of scoring chances, but ultimately the Owls knocked off the Colonels by a score of 1-0.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- An early highlight came five minutes in as Kenyon got a penalty kick opportunity, but
Brendan Egan came up big with a save to keep the Owls off the board.
- The Colonels got their best chance at denting the scoreboard in the 21st minute, but
Drew Davidson had his shot denied by the Kenyon keeper and the game remained scoreless.
- In the last two minutes of the first half, there was one more scoring chance for the Owls, which was turned away once again by Egan as both teams headed to the locker room with a 0-0 tie.
- To start the second half, Egan made a pair of saves in the early going, but the second one deflected to a Kenyon Player, who finally broke the tie in the 53rd minute with what proved to be the only goal of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both teams struggled getting scoring chances, as the game only featured 17 combined shots and eight shots on goal. Davidson led the Colonels with two shots.
- Egan finished with six saves, giving him 18 in his last two games.
- Kenyon held a 12-3 edge in corner kicks.
