DANVILLE, Ky. – After a marathon match on Wednesday, the Centre volleyball team returned home to continue conference play with a match against the Hendrix Warriors on Friday night.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set as the Colonels held onto a small lead for the majority of the frame. The Colonels led by as many as five points at 23-18, and then held on to win 25-22 as a kill by
Isabel Thornton and a tandem block by
Mack Turner and
Brooke Palmer put the final two points on the board.
- In the second set, Centre played well at the start, scoring six of the first seven points of the period. Centre carried that momentum with them for the rest of the set, leading by at least five points the whole way and sealing a 25-19 victory to go up 2-0 in the match.
- The early stages of the third set belonged to the Warriors, who kept the momentum for most of the set, extending the lead to as many as ten points at 18-8. The Colonels battled back with a big run, outscoring Hendrix 14-4 to even the score at 22-22 and then again at 23-23, but Hendrix scored the final two points to extend the match with a 25-23 win.
- Hendrix maintained the momentum from winning the third set and started well in the fourth, putting Centre in an early deficit. The Colonels rallied to tie the score at 10-10 and then there were a few lead changes and ties until Hendrix used a 4-0 run to go up 21-17. Trailing 24-22, the Colonels fought off a pair of set points to tie the score again, and then fought off another to make it 25-25. A rare kill from the setter position by
Emily Gardner made it 26-25, and then the Colonels got the clincher to take the 27-25 victory.

Syd Bietz led a balanced offensive effort with 15 kills, followed by
Brooke Palmer with 13 and
Emily Goddin and
Isabel Thornton with ten each.
- Gardner finished with a game high 45 assists and tied for a team high 15 digs.
- Along with Gardner,
Madi Barron also led the Colonels with 15 digs, with
Lily Hendricks,
June Padilla and
Madi Winfield also finishing in double digits.

It will be a quick turnaround for Centre volleyball as they return to the court on Saturday afternoon to face the Rhodes Lynx.
