Colonels sweep Lynx for third straight win

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre volleyball made it a perfect 3-0 in conference games this week as they made quick work of the Rhodes Lynx, knocking them off in straight sets.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The opening set was close the whole way as Rhodes held a small lead for the most part. The Lynx led 20-17 before the Colonels scored six of the next seven to take their largest lead. With the score tied at 23-23, consecutive kills by Emily Gardner and Isabel Thornton put a capper on a 25-23 win for Centre.
- In the second set, Centre got off to a 6-1 start following aces by June Padilla and Emily Goddin. Rhodes made it close in the middle stages before Centre reeled off eight of the final nine points to take a 25-17 win as Syd Bietz had three kills in the clinching rally for the Colonels.
- The Colonels would have to play from behind again in the third set as Rhodes held a small lead. Centre used a late 9-1 run to take the lead for the first time as Goddin teamed with Bietz for a block, and then delivered an ace for the winner as the Colonels took it by a score of 25-23 to get the sweep.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- An extremely balanced scoring effort saw Bietz, Goddin and Thornton lead the Colonels with nine kills each, with Brooke Palmer finishing with eight.
- Centre also outhit the Lynx .233-.103, with Thornton producing a season high .529 hitting percentage.
- Gardner finished with a game high 35 assists, 11 more than Rhodes had as a team.

Centre volleyball will hit the road for the next two weeks of conference play, beginning with a match at Birmingham-Southern on Oct. 6.
