Centre men earn 79-65 victory over Oglethorpe

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's basketball team picked up their first Southern Athletic Association victory of the season as they knocked off the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels by a score of 79-65.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Centre utilized a trapping press to force a pair of early Oglethorpe turnovers and score five quick points in the first two minutes.
- Trailing 16-13 at the second media timeout of the half, the Colonels went on their first big run of the game. Chez Moore got inside to score twice. Kaden White got to the rack for a layup and then buried a three. A Cade Stinnett free throw put a capper on a 10-0 run that put the Colonels up 23-16.
- The two teams settled down over the final eight minutes, but clutch threes from White and Stinnett gave Centre a strong close to the half as the Colonels entered the locker room with a 37-28 lead.
- Early in the second half, Centre extended the lead to 43-33 thanks to a bucket and two free throws by Riley Mastin. The Petrels made their biggest push of the game over the next four minutes, outscoring Centre 12-2 to tie the game at the second media timeout.
- Oglethorpe managed to tie the score again at 49-49 but the Colonels stayed in front as Stinnett got a crucial basket off an offensive rebound, followed by free throws from Mastin and Moore.
- Carter Baughman made consecutive threes late in the half to keep the Centre lead at eight points. Mastin worked his way inside for a score, and then Landen Hamilton got a steal and found a streaking Moore for a layup that put Centre back on top by ten. Another basket by Mastin at the end of the shot clock effectively sealed the win as the Colonels continued to knock down free throws to ice the game.
