CONWAY,Ark.- In a repeat of last weekend, Centre women's basketball tipped-off against the Warriors. After scoring the most points they have in a Southern Athletic Conference (SAA) game this season, the Colonels completed the season series sweep versus Hendrix, improving to 7-1 in the league.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels opened the game with ease, finding a jumper from
Makya Grinter in the opening possession. The Warriors answered with the first three of the frame but the Colonels found equal success from outside with successive threes from
Anna Thomas and Grinter. The Warriors eventually cut the Colonels' double-figured lead with a 9-2 run but continued to trail entering the next quarter.
- Centre continued to pull-away with a 10-2 run to open the period. Thomas initiated the stretch, followed with notable baskets from Grinter,
Lilly Reid, and
Natalie Duggins. Out of the quarter's media break,
Bailey Rucker and Grinter's hot shooting further stretched the Colonels' hold with a pair of consecutive long balls. Hendrix closed the period with a late push but the Colonels had already more than doubled their opponent's points in the quarter. Entering the second half, the Gold & White led 45-26.
- Out of halftime, Centre capitalized on easy scoring opportunities as Duggins and
Emma Perna opened with seven quick points. After being held to just four points from the paint in the first half, the Warriors found new success mid-way through the period. Putting up eight late points from the floor, Hendrix cut Centre's hold to 23 entering quarter four.
- The fourth period was highlighted by the freshman class.
Ka'Niah Edelen opened the rookie push, followed by successive buckets from
Lindsay Jessie. Just after,
Kylie Floyd entered the scoring column with a three, the first SAA points of her career. Floyd later closed Centre's scoring with a made free throw to set the final score at 79-46, the Colonels favoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Ginter led the court in points with 16. Three other Colonels obtained double-figured points. Vincent put up 14, Rucker had 11, and Thomas collected ten.
- Centre led from the paint with 24 points compared to the Hendrix's 14.
- Centre dominated with 21 second chance points compared to the Warriors' six.
- The Colonels nearly doubled Hendrix in rebounds with 41.
