Centre volleyball beats Millsaps for fifth straight win

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Centre volleyball team completed the first half of the conference schedule undefeated as the Colonels improved to 6-0 in conference play with an arduous 3-2 victory over the Millsaps Majors inside Alumni Gym.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The opening set belonged to the Colonels, who doubled up the Majors 14-7 to start and never trailed as Emma Howell put home the final kill on a 25-17 Centre victory.
- Both teams played well in the second set, with neither team ever leading by more than two at any point. The score was tied at 23-23 before Delia Long and Mack Turner delivered consecutive kills to give it to Centre by a score of 25-23.
- Centre held an 11-6 lead in the third set before Millsaps chipped away, eventually pulling ahead with five straight points. The Colonels rebounded to grab a 20-19 lead, but the Majors again scored five straight and held off a late Centre charge to win 25-22.
- The fourth set was another seesaw affair with both teams making big runs to wrestle away the momentum. Centre forced a match point at 24-22, but Millsaps rallied with four straight to extend the match with a 26-24 win.
- In the fifth set, both teams continued to go back and forth, with neither team gaining much of an edge. The Colonels trailed 12-11 before rallying to score the final four points for a 15-12 win that kept them atop the conference standings

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Turner and Ally Knueven each posted game highs with 18 kills, with Long adding 14. Turner's .412 hitting percentage was also a game high.
- Emily Gardner established a new season high with 56 assists, four shy of a career high.
- Centre finished with 98 digs on the afternoon, led by June Padilla with a career high 39. Amery Galan and Madi Winfield each finished with double digit digs as well.

NEXT UP

The Colonels will begin the second half of their conference slate with a trip to Sewanee on Monday. Centre defeated Sewanee 3-0 in the first matchup in Danville on Sept. 14.
