SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team began the second half of the Southern Athletic Association schedule with a trip to Sewanee to face the Tigers on Fall Break. Each of the sets was tightly contested, but all three went to the Colonels, who improved to 15-4 on the year and 7-0 in conference play with the win.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set saw the Colonels take the early lead and hold on, never letting the Tigers get over the hump. Leading 19-17, Centre scored five of the next six to create some distance and eventually won by a score of 25-20.
- In the second set, Sewanee took control around the midway point and took their largest lead at 21-15. The Colonels faced a set point at 24-19 before staging a ridiculous rally, scoring the final seven points to take it 26-24 in extra points.
Abby Swartz had consecutive kills during the run and Centre scored its final two points on aces by
June Padilla.
- With momentum firmly on their side, the Colonels grabbed the edge early in the third set, and while Sewanee kept it close the whole way, the Colonels never trailed, delivering an answer every time the Tigers got within one point. The final kill came from
Mack Turner to ice the 25-23 win and the match.

Syd Bietz finished with a dozen kills to lead all players.

Emily Gardner continued her 10 assists per set average as she finished with 32 on the night, three more than the Sewanee team total.
- Padilla led the Colonels with 14 digs, followed by
Emersyn Pannell with 13.
- The Colonels played their best at the end of the match, hitting a game high .304 in the final set.

Centre volleyball will be back at home this weekend with a pair of games, starting with a rematch against Hendrix on Oct. 19.
