WINCHESTER, Va.- On Sunday afternoon, Centre field hockey returned to Virginia to face No. 13 Lynchburg. After a competitive contest, the Colonels suffered an overtime loss to the nationally ranked program.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre came out swinging, outshooting the Hornets in the opening ten minutes. Lynchburg would ultimately notch the first, and only goal of the quarter, moving the score to 1-0 entering quarter two.
- The Colonels evened the score midway through the second period when
Tori Drepaul set up
Claire Martin for a quick goal. With no additional points in the half, the score showed an even tie at 1-1 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, the Hornets swiftly regained the lead with their second goal two minutes in and like the first half, the Colonels answered in the next period, this time in
Ashley Hamilton. With the game returning to a tie, the two teams headed into overtime.
- Lynchburg ended the sudden death period 90 seconds in, finalizing the score at Lynchburg three, Centre two.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Martin and
Maggie Will tied for Centre's leader in shots with two apiece.
- In goal,
Carlie McKenry tallied eight saves in her 60 minutes.
- Lynchburg favored in corners with 14 compared to Centre's five.
