WINCHESTER, Va.- On Monday, the Centre field hockey team remained in Virginia to close out their fall break tour. Facing Shenandoah, the Colonels suffered a 4-1 loss to the Hornets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Shenandoah opened the game's scoring seven minutes in. Several minutes later, Centre's
Maggie Will and
Ashley Hamilton paired up to tie the game up at 1-1 entering the next period.
- The second frame brought few shots from either squad, much of the action happening in the midfield. With five minutes to go in the half, the Hornets tallied their second point, moving the score to Shenandoah two, Centre one entering the break.
- Out of halftime, the Hornets came out swinging, but Centre's
Carlie McKenry collected four big saves, adding a defensive save in
Claire Martin to stifle their opponent's attempts. Midway through the quarter, Shenandoah tallied their third goal during a penalty corner, moving the score to 3-1 entering the final 15 minutes.
- The fourth period mimicked the third as McKenry continued to deny the Hornets' early shot attempts. With ten minutes to go in the contest, Shenandoah notched their fourth and final goal, finalizing the score at 4-1, the Hornets favoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Will fronted Centre in points with one as Hamilton claimed the assist.
- McKenry led the game in saves with 17.
- Shenandoah favored in corners, having 15 to Centre's one.
