Women’s soccer winners on Senior Day

DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre women's soccer cruised to a shutout win in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Senior Day with a 5-0 rout of Millsaps College that featured two braces.

The Colonels left the celebration with a 9-2-1 overall record and an SAA mark of 2-1. The Majors fell to 2-9-2 overall and 0-4 in the SAA with the loss on Sunday.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Ashlyn Miles opened the scoring, and her Centre scoring account, with a goal in the 26th minute. The freshman took control of a ball that missed the intended target and put the ball in the net.
- Mary Martin Hampton got the first goal of her brace in the 41st minute. Claire Cavacini intercepted a ball from a Millsaps player and passed to her Colonel teammate who sent the ball into the back left corner of the goal.
- Lydia Bowling, another member of the Gold & White to notch a brace, scored the first goal of the second half. Less than a minute into the second frame the senior took a weird bounce and turned it into a score just inches from the goal.
- Hampton added her second score in the 74th minute. Zara McCarthy's third assist of the season was what Hampton needed to lock down a brace.
- The final goal secured another brace. Bowling beat a defender and then went around the Major's goalie, who was on the ground, before sending her second goal into the netting to finish the 5-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels took a whopping 33 shots while holding Millsaps to none. A total of 20 of those shots were on goal, which is a season-high for the Centre squad.
- The five goals are the second-most in a match this season for the Gold & White.
- Sunday marked the seventh shutout for Centre this season and the second time in the 2024 campaign that the Colonels kept their opponent from taking any shots.
- Centre was awarded nine corner kicks while the Majors had none. That scenario has happened three times this season.
- Grace Dutcher and Anna Thomas split the game in goal. Dutcher earned the start and Thomas came in to play the full second period.
