Field Hockey completes season series sweep versus Marian

DANVILLE, Ky.- Centre field hockey hosted Collegiate Field Hockey Conference's (CFHC) Marian for their final home game of the 2024 season. Taking the early lead, the Colonels blanked their conference opponent for the second time this season, this time with a final score of 4-0. 
 
With today's victory, the Gold & White improve to a 2-1 mark in the CFHC. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- The game opened at a slower pace; the first shot not being registered until the tenth minute. The Colonels eventually broke the scoreless stalemate in the final 20 seconds of the quarter when Jackie Rodriguez assisted Ashley Hamilton during a penalty corner. 
- The Gold & White quickly doubled the score deficit with their second goal two minutes into the next period. Centre's Emily Ritchie and Maggie Will paired up to make it a 2-0 game, adding an identical goal four minutes later to further stretch the Colonels' lead. With the Sabres unable to find the back of cage, Centre held a three-point edge entering halftime.
- Out of the break, the Colonels continued their offensive push, outshooting Marian 18-2 in the second half. Centre notched the fourth and final goal of the game midway through the fourth period, Will setting it in to claim her first hat trick of the season. When regulation closed, the final score was set at 4-0, the Colonels favoring.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
- Will led the game in goals with three; Hamilton followed with one.
- Ritchie fronted the game in assists with two. 
- In goal, Carlie McKenry and MJ Surtin split time. Together the two shutout their opponents after tallying four saves. 
- Centre favored in both corners (8-2) and shots (28-6). 

UP NEXT
The Colonels will travel for their final two games of the regular season.  They'll face Sewanee on Oct. 26th at 11:30 a.m. ET.
