Field hockey shuts out Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn.- On Saturday, the Centre field hockey team traveled to Tennessee for their second to last game of the 2024 regular season. Facing Sewanee in their designated Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC) contest, the Colonels downed the Tigers 2-0, improving to 3-1 in the league. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- The Colonels opened the game's scoring with their very first shot taken. Claire Martin sent the ball to the back of cage in the fifth minute, handing Centre an early lead. Although Sewanee tallied five following shots and the Colonels attempted one additional, the score remained at 1-0 entering quarter two. 
- The second quarter proved to be a scoreless stalemate between the two squads, the Gold & White taking three shots, Sewanee having zero. Entering halftime, the Colonels held a one-point edge. 
- Out of the break, the Tigers made their biggest offensive push yet. Taking eight shots during their nine corner opportunities, Sewanee was stifled by goalkeeper Carlie McKenry who stopped five shots in the frame. Heading into the final 15-minutes of play, Centre led 1-0.
- Midway through the fourth period, senior Abby Brainard notched Centre's second goal with the assist coming from Halle Rigden. With neither team notching an additional point, the final score was set at 2-0, the Colonels favoring.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
- Martin and Brainard tied for the game's leader in goals with one each. Ridgen fronted the game in assists with one. 
- Peyton Gahm owned the only defensive save of the contest.
- In goal, McKenry led the game in saves, stopping 11 while Tigers managed two.

UP NEXT
The Colonels will travel to Memphis for their final contest of the regular season. Taking on Rhodes, Centre field hockey looks to complete the season series sweep on Nov. 2nd at 1 p.m. ET.
