Colonels fall in double overtime

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- On Saturday afternoon, Centre field hockey traveled to Memphis for their regular season finale. Facing Rhodes, the Colonels ultimately suffered a double overtime loss, moving to a 7-10 record entering the inaugural Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC) tournament.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- The Lynx opened the game's scoring, notching the first point midway through during a penalty corner. Although the Colonels led in shots taken, they were halted with three saves from Rhodes' goalkeeper. With just one goal scored, the board read 1-0 entering the next frame.
- Both the second and third period offered a scoreless stalemate between the two squads. Rhodes doubled the Colonels in shots taken but Centre's Carlie McKenry kept the Lynx at bay thanks to her two saves. Entering the final quarter, the Gold & White trailed by one. 
- Midway through the fourth, the Colonels evened the score during a penalty corner. Ashley Hamilton set in the tying goal, the assist coming from Maggie Will off the insert. By the end of regulation, neither team tallied a second point, forcing the two teams into sudden death overtime.
- Only one shot and one save were recorded in the first overtime period, McKenry stuffing Rhodes. The game came to a close 22 seconds into the second overtime period. The Lynx set in the game winner after being awarded a corner, finalizing the game at Rhodes two, Centre one. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
- Hamilton led the Colonels in goals with one.
- Claire Martin fronted Centre in shots taken with two. 
- McKenry and Rhodes' keeper tied one another with five saves apiece. 

UP NEXT
The Colonels will travel back to Sewanee for the CFHC tournament starting on Nov. 7th.
