Women’s soccer falls in regular-season finale

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Centre women's soccer closed the regular season with a 2-1 setback to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular-season champion Sewanee on Saturday afternoon. 

The Colonels record at the end of regular-season action is 10-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the SAA. The Tigers improved to 11-1-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS   
- Centre got on the board early. Mary Martin Hampton stole the ball from a defender right outside of the box. The sophomore then sent a rocket of a shot into the net to take a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of action. 
- Sewanee evened the proceedings with a strike in the 56th minute. The Tigers then scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to take the regular-season finale for both teams. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE   
- Mary Martin Hampton's goal was her fourth of the season. That is tied for second most scores for the Colonels this season. 
- Claire Cavacini, Riley Givens and Hampton led Centre with two shots each in the contest. Givens, Aida Bell, Alexis Kronenthal, and Hampton each took one shot on goal. 
- Grace Dutcher was in goal for the Colonels all 90 minutes and stopped five shots. 

LOOKING AHEAD 
- Centre is awaiting the results of two other contests to find out the team's SAA Tournament seed. The Gold & White squad are guaranteed to land either the no. 3 or no. 4 seed in the upcoming tournament. 

UP NEXT    
The Colonels have secured the positioning required to host a first-round match in the SAA Tournament. That match will be played on Saturday, November 2 with the game time and opponent to be announced later this evening.
