Field hockey battles No.5 CNU on the road

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Colonels traveled to Virginia for their first of a four-game road tilt. Taking on No. 5 Christopher Newport (CNU), Centre suffered a 5-0 loss, Carlie McKenry tallying a career high of 22 saves.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- The Captains struck early, going up 2-0 in the opening frame. The Colonels' defense attempted to stifle CNU with six saves from McKenry, adding a defensive save in senior Abby Brainard
- Centre's defense clamped down in the second period, holding the Captains to just one goal, moving the score to CNU three, Centre zero entering halftime.
- Out of the break, the Captains continued to rattle off shots but wouldn't land another until the fourth frame. In the second half alone, McKenry tallied an impressive 12 saves from her ranked opponents. With CNU registering an additional two goals in the final period, the score was closed at 5-0, the Captains favoring.

- Brainard led the game in defensive saves with one.
