Colonels drop in CFHC opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- On Sunday afternoon, the Centre field hockey team opened their 2024 Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC) schedule on the campus of Mary Washington. Facing the Eagles, the Colonels suffered their first conference loss of the season, moving to 0-1 in the league. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- Mary Washington opened the game's scoring midway through the first quarter. The Eagles wouldn't place another shot in the half thanks to Carlie McKenry's four saves on her five shots faced. Heading into the second half, Mary Washington held a one-point advantage.
- Out of halftime, the Eagles struck early and often, placing a goal two minutes into the half, adding two additional before the end of the frame. Heading into the final period, the score read Mary Washington four, Centre zero. 
- The final period brought one goal for the Eagles. Although the Colonels registered the most shots in their final quarter, they wouldn't tally a point, setting the final score at Mary Washington five, Centre zero.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
- Emily Ritchie and Ashley Hamilton led the Colonels in shots taken, each having two.
- In goal, McKenry led the game in saves with 11.
- Mary Washington favored in corners, having 13 while Centre took 6.

The Gold & White will return to Virginia next weekend to face No. 11 Lynchburg on Sunday, Oct. 13th
