Colonels survive Petrels to stay unbeaten in conference play

ATLANTA – The Centre volleyball team remained perfect in conference play as they were pushed to the limit by the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe, winning in five sets to improve to 12-4 on the season.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The opening set belonged to the Petrels as Oglethorpe used an early 10-1 run to build a cushion and then held off a late Centre charge to take a 25-18 victory.
- Centre bounced back in the second set, going on a 7-1 rally midway through to break a tie. From there, they never trailed again as Syd Bietz put home the final kill on a 25-19 win for the Colonels.
- In the third set, Centre stormed out of the gates to an early 9-3 lead and held onto the lead for the duration. Oglethorpe could get no closer than three points the rest of the way as Bietz delivered the final kill on a 25-20 win.
- Oglethorpe used several runs to overcome an early deficit and push the match to a fifth set. Centre led 15-12 before Oglethorpe outscored the Colonels 13-3 down the stretch to take a 25-19 win.
- The fifth set went back and forth as the two teams were tied at 9-9. From there, Centre slammed the door with the final six points. Ally Knueven, making her first appearance in the match, had two kills down the stretch, including the final one as Centre took it by a score of 15-9.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- Bietz led the Colonels with 15 kills, followed by Delia Long with 13 and Hollye Tate and Mack Turner with ten each.
- Emily Gardner continued her torrid assist pace, leading all players with 48.
- Centre finished with a season high 89 digs on the afternoon, led by June Padilla with 26. Gardner, Amery Galan and Abby Swartz all finished in double digits in digs as well.
