ROME, Ga. – In the most thrilling contest of the season so far, the Centre volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play as they defeated the Berry Vikings in five drama-filled sets.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set saw the Colonels fall into an early deficit and play from behind the entire way. Centre kept it close throughout, but Berry maintained the lead all the way and took a close one by a score of 25-22.
- Centre and Berry played neck and neck in the second set with seven lead changes and 11 ties, with neither team leaving by more than three. Ultimately it was the Colonels who prevailed as
Syd Bietz put home the final kill on a 25-23 victory to even the match.
- The third set saw Centre grab the lead at the midway point and hold the Vikings at bay in the closing stages as the two teams alternated the final eight points. A kill from
Abby Swartz shut the door on a 25-22 win for the Colonels.
- In the fourth set, Berry fought to stay alive, leading for almost the entire set and taking a 22-18 advantage. Centre rallied to tie the match at 24-24 to force extra points, but the next two points went to the Vikings as Berry pushed the match to the brink.
- The Colonels blitzed the Vikings in the fifth set as they scored the first seven points. The Vikings chipped away and eventually cut the margin to two at 13-11, but
