DANVILLE, Ky. – On Tuesday evening, Centre women's basketball took to Alumni Gymnasium for their 2024-25 home opener. Taking on Greenville, the Colonels' second half surge downed the Panthers by a score of 69-51, improving to a perfect 3-0 record.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre got a quick jump on the Panthers,
Lilly Reid opening with a jumper, immediately forcing a turnover turned to a three for
Emma Perna. Approaching the media timeout,
Arin Nipp and
Kristen Whited put up a trio of three-point plays to set the Colonels ahead by 11. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the period, adjusting the score to Centre 24, Greenville 14 entering quarter two.
- The two squads suffered scoring droughts in the second. Reid netted the only two baskets in the opening six minutes, one from long range, the other in the paint. The Panthers responded with ten unanswered points but a late lay-up from
Lindsay Jessie closed both the run and the half. Entering the break, the board read 31-24, the Colonels favoring.
- Perna set the pace opening the second half, draining one from long range, forcing a turnover, netting a free-throw, and taking it off the glass to add another made basket from behind the arc. Sequential jumpers from
Anna Thomas and
Ryleigh Campbell cushioned the Colonels' double-digit lead. The two teams swapped baskets for the remnants of the frame, moving the score to 53-39, the Gold & White leading.
- The Colonels opened with a 7-2 run before a mid-period long ball from Whited gave Centre their largest lead yet of 21 points. The Colonels found themselves in foul trouble but while the Panthers were finding their points at the line, Campbell and Reid were finding success from long range. When regulation closed, Centre favored by a score of 69-51.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre had four athletes in double digit points. Reid led the Colonels with 15, Perna had 13, Whited netted 12, and Campbell tallied ten.
- Reid fronted the game in assists with six and steals with three.
- Nipp tied for the game's leader in rebounds with 12, six offensive and six defensive.
- Centre dominated in both second chance points (23-13) and fast break points (11-1).
