Women's basketball stays unbeaten with 81-70 win over Schreiner

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball had the best offensive performance of the young season as the Colonels improved to 4-0 on the year with an 81-70 victory over the Schreiner Mountaineers inside Alumni Gym.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
- The Colonels jumped out to an early 9-2 lead as Bailey Rucker, making her first appearance of the season, scored seven in the opening stages. Centre maintained the seven-point lead through the end of the first quarter as Anna Thomas and Lilly Reid got inside for easy baskets in the final minute, putting Centre up 19-12.
- The visiting Mountaineers chipped away at the lead to start the second period before Centre fired back with a 6-0 run. Layups by Thomas and Rucker put Centre up 29-19 for their first double-digit lead of the game.
- Both teams traded baskets over the final few minutes of the half, but Centre had the final answer as Ryleigh Campbell connected from three and the Colonels took a 39-26 lead at the break.
- Arin Nipp converted a three-point play to set the tone at the start of the third quarter as the Colonels held onto their double-digit lead. Leading 56-42, Lilly Reid and Claire Russell combined for the next nine points to put Centre up by 20 for the first time. Reid kept the pressure on Schreiner with four more points at the end of the quarter and Centre led 67-44 after three periods.
- Schreiner played better in the final quarter as they had their best shooting period of the game. Reid and Rucker kept the Mountaineers at bay as the final score was the closest it got the rest of the way.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
 
- The Colonels had a great all-around shooting day as they finished 53 percent from the floor, 42 percent from three-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line.
- Reid and Rucker were the only Centre players in double figures as they led all players with 19 points each.
- Centre held a 36-27 advantage on the glass with Nipp recording a game high eight rebounds.

Centre women's basketball will return to action on Nov. 18 as they hit the road for a matchup against the Asbury Eagles.
