WILMORE, Ky. - The Centre men's basketball team bounced back in a big way from Monday's loss as they shot lights out for 40 minutes, defeating the Fontbonne Griffins by a score of 99-57 as part of the Asbury Invitational.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels went on an early 12-0 run to take command in the opening minutes. Three-pointers by
Jaxson Banks and
Ryan Shene gave Centre a 16-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.
- Centre kept up the hot shooting as
Landen Hamilton and
Hunter Coleman sandwiched a Fontbonne three with deep balls of their own. The Colonels went up by 20 for the first time when Shene put back his own miss for a 34-14 edge.
- The onslaught continued as Centre turned defense to offense.
Kalib Thomas scored eight straight Colonel points and a layup by
Johnny Djema gave the Colonels a 51-23 lead at the break.
- The pace slowed somewhat in the second half, but Centre's hot shooting did not as the Colonels hit seven of their first eight shots to start the half. Banks again started the flurry as he and
Nolan Wahl combined for the first nine Centre points in the second half.
- The Colonels emptied the bench soon after going up by 30 but still maintained the torrid shooting pace as numerous players recorded their first official points. Centre led by as many as 44 points in the second half.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- 15 different Centre players got on the scoreboard tonight, but only three reached double figures in the balanced scoring effort. Banks and Thomas led with 14 each, followed by Shene with 11.
- The Colonels hit 46 percent on 17 of 37 from three-point range. Ten different Colonels connected from downtown, led by Coleman and Shene with three each.
- Centre doubled up the Griffins on the glass, led by a season high eight boards from Djema.
