First quarter costs Colonels on the road

WILMORE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball traveled up the road to tip-off in an instate contest versus the Eagles. Although fighting back from a double-digit deficit in the opening frame, the Colonels fell by a score of 61-60 in the game's final quarter.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Eagles jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening three minutes of play, Lilly Reid responsible for the Colonels' early basket. Midway through the frame, Bailey Rucker and Ryleigh Campbell teamed up for five quick points but Asbury held the pressure, answering with double the offensive efforts. Emma Perna netted a late three but by the end of the quarter, the Eagles led 24-10.
- The momentum immediately swung in the Colonels' favor opening the second period. A jumper from Ka'Niah Edelen initiated the push, followed by a trio of long balls from Rucker and Kristen Whited to bring Centre within three. The Eagles battled back with a late run, leaving the first half score at 32-25, Asbury favoring.
- Rucker opened the second half in the paint to then immediately assist Reid from long range to put Centre within one basket. Later threes from Perna and Reid paired with a lay-up from Russell tied the game up at 38-38 with five minutes to go. The Eagles regained the lead for just a moment before a quad of free throws handed Centre their first lead of the game. Lindsay Jessie and Rucker doubled down with a pair of lay-ups before the end of the quarter, adjusting the score to 47-45, the Colonels leading.
- Both teams traded baskets in the opening five minutes until Asbury regained the lead with back-to-back buckets. Campbell netted one from behind the arc but was immediately answered from the paint. The Eagles tallied another from the floor before placing the Colonels at the charity stripe. In the final nine seconds, Asbury scored a late lay-up to go up 61-58 but put Edelen on the line two seconds later. Although netting both, when time ran out, the Colonels fell by a score of 61-60.
