11/19/2024 11:00:00 AM

WACO, Texas - Earlier today Centre's Andy Frye was named the Division III Region 3 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches' Association.

Frye helped guide the Centre football team to an 8-2 regular season and a three-way share of the Southern Athletic Association title, Centre's first conference title since 2018. It is the first AFCA Regional Coach of the Year Frye has won in his legendary career.

One day after securing the conference title with a 35-8 victory over Sewanee, Frye and his Colonels punched their ticket to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. It is the fourth time Centre football has qualified for the NCAA Playoffs, with previous postseason appearances coming in the 2011, 2014 and 2018 seasons.

Frye will enter this season's playoffs with a 180-87 overall record. Centre will travel to Pittsburgh to face no. 15 Carnegie Mellon in the opening round on Nov. 30.
