ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association released its weekly awards for week 9 of the 2026 football season and Centre took home two of this week's awards with Defensive Player of the Week
Mario Brewer Jr. and Special Teams Player of the Week
Brody Aylor.
Both players scored non-offensive touchdowns for the Colonels in Saturday's 28-14 win against no. 19 Berry. On the first offensive series of the second quarter, the Colonels blocked a Berry punt deep inside enemy territory. Aylor recovered it at the 2-yard line and got into the end zone for a massive special teams touchdown that put Centre up by two scores.
Brewer made his impact on the game in the fourth quarter with the Colonels up 20-7 and Berry on Centre's 23, looking to cut the deficit to a touchdown. On fourth down, the senior linebacker picked off a Berry pass at the goal line and raced 100 yards the other way for what proved to be the game-sealing touchdown. Brewer's 100-yard runback was the longest interception return in program history.
Centre football will be back in action on Nov. 7 with their final home game of the season against Trinity.
