DANVILLE, Ky. – The top two teams in the SAA volleyball standings met in Alumni Gym as no. 1 Centre took on no. 2 Berry. Like their previous match, this one went the distance, but the visiting Vikings took it in five, snapping a nine-game win streak for the Colonels.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set saw Centre grab the early lead and hang on, extending to as many as seven points at 19-12. With the Colonels up 20-14, the Vikings went on the longest run of the day for either team, scoring 11 straight points to take the win by a score of 25-20.
- The Colonels bounced back in the second set as both teams traded the lead back and forth. The Vikings led 21-19 before the Colonels staged a rally, scoring six of the final seven to take a 25-22 win.
Syd Bietz and
Abby Swartz delivered consecutive kills to finish off the rally and tie the match.
- In the third set, the Colonels again took the early lead at 9-3 before Berry outscored Centre 9-1 to get the advantage. The two teams again traded their best shots before Berry scored the last three to win by a score of 25-21.
- Centre played its best in the fourth set to extend the match. Outside of the initial point of the set, the Colonels never trailed, hitting their highest percentage of the match. The Vikings kept it close, but Centre pushed the match to the limit with a 25-21 win.
- In the fifth set, the Vikings retook the momentum right away, scoring the first four points. The Colonels rallied to cut the margin to a single point at 7-6, but Berry followed with four straight and never looked back, winning 15-11.

- Bietz led all players with 18 kills, with
Ally Knueven and
Hollye Tate adding ten each.

Emily Gardner finished with 42 assists to pace the Colonels while adding 18 digs.

June Padilla posted a game high 31 digs as Centre held an 89-82 advantage in digs.
- Berry finished with 12 aces in the match compared to three for the Colonels.

Centre volleyball will play its final regular season home game on Sunday as they host Oglethorpe on Senior Day. The Colonels won the first matchup of the season in five sets.
