DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's track & field got the 2024-25 season underway as the reigning SAA indoor and outdoor champions welcomed a field of all divisions to Champions Hall for the Centre First Chance. The event was not scored, but five new indoor program records were set in the meet.
Senior
Madjo Doumbia broke two of her previous program records from 2022 as she clocked in at 7.66 in the 60m and 25.07 in the 200m, both first place times. In the 400m,
Ainsley Wilson got the win for the Colonels with a time of 1:01.38, earning victory by 0.07 seconds.
The next record to fall came in the 4x400m relay as Doumbia and Wilson teamed with All-American
Chloe Hein and first-year Alexandria Masden to win the race with a time of 4:03.50, breaking an indoor record that had stood since the 2011 season.
Masden continued her auspicious debut by setting a new school record in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 9.39 to break the high mark set by
Callie Gormley in 2022. Gormley also posted a podium finish for Centre, clocking in at 9.59 to take second place.
Moving to the middle and long distance races,
Kate Keller posted the fastest time for the Centre women in the 800m, posting a time of 2:33.02 to take third place. She was followed closely by
Erin Haugh, who finished less than a second behind in fourth. In the mile, Haugh finished second overall with a time of 5:27.02. The 3000m saw
Emma Musgrave post the fastest time for the Colonels, taking third place in 10:56.95. Finally, in the 5k, Centre took each of the top four times, led by
Sophie Bouldin, who won with a time of 17:55.52.
In the long jump, Hein, Gormley and
Serena McNeilly posted a 1-2-3 finish, with Hein taking the top spot with a mark of 19-0, breaking her previous indoor school record by a quarter of an inch. The triple jump saw Marie De Amour Manirakiza finish third overall with a mark of 33-3.25. In the high jump, McNeilly tied the school record that she set last season with a clear of 5-6.25 for first place. The top clear for Centre in the pole vault came from Lyla Bordwine, who cleared 10-0 to take fourth overall.
Finally, in the throwing events, Zoey Shahid-Scott had an impressive debut in the shot put, finishing second overall with a mark of 37-11.5.
Lindsey Browning had the best mark of the day for the Centre women in the weight throw, posting a mark of 46-1 to take second place.
