HANOVER, Ind.- Centre women's lacrosse took to the road for the first game of the season. Traveling to Hanover, the Colonels outscored the Panthers 23-2, improving to a 1-0 overall record.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Goals came early and often for the Colonels. Rookie Riley Jackson opened the game's scoring with her first collegiate goal. Veterans Addie Lewis and Lily Gahm further stretched the deficit with successive goals before the Panthers would claim their only goal of the half. By the close of the period, Emma Botts, Isa Stumpf, Mary Margaret Bryant, and rookie Ellie Macdonald tallied goals to put the game into running clock entering the next period.
- The second quarter mimicked the first at the Colonels continued to pull away early. Ella Treinen initiated the period with back-to-back goals, the second one being man-up. Gracie Garner followed in similar fashion as she concluded the half's scoring with two successive goals of her own. Entering the halftime break, the Colonels led 15-1.
- The Gold & White continued to dominate in the second half. Before the close of regulation, both Botts and Treinen clinched a hat-trick as Olivia Sweasy joined the scoring column. The Panthers netted the game's last goal with just two seconds to go, closing the final score at Centre 23, Hanover two.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Botts led the field in goals with six. Treinen followed just behind with three.
- The Colonels had ten different athletes in the scoring column, two of which collected their first collegiate goal(s).
- In goal,
Gracey Falk stuffed three of the Panthers' shots, simultaneously leading Centre to a perfect 10-10 on clears.
- The Gold & White dominated in draw controls (23-5), shots (41-10), and groundballs (39-18).
