COLUMBUS, Ohio – Centre women's lacrosse traveled north to play Capital for their second game of the season. Although a hasty start, the Colonels suffered their first loss of the season, moving to a 1-1 overall record.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The game opened at a competitive pace with both teams matching one another point for point. Midway through the quarter,
Emma Botts,
Lily Gahm, and
Olivia Sweasy had collectively matched the Comets with four goals. Nearing the six-minute mark, Capital took the lead with a pair of man-up goals, tallying two more even goals in the following possessions. Gahm broke the run with an unassisted point just before the Comets tallied another man-up goal. The Colonels closed the first quarter with a trio of successive goals, one being an ankle breaker from
Haley Rice, another being a buzzer-beater from Botts. Entering the next period, the Comets held a three-point lead over Centre.
- After an overload of goals in the initial quarter, the second started at a much slower pace, neither team scoring in the opening possessions. Capital eventually opened the scoring with three goals in just three minutes. Nearing halftime, Gahm and
Ella Treinen opened Centre's scoring with back-to-back goals. Tallying six goals compared to Centre's two, the Comets led 17-10 heading into the locker room.
- Out of the break, Capital opened with a trio of goals to move the game to running clock but a free-position goal from Treinen returned it to regular play. The Comets tallied one additional goal before quarter's end, moving the score to 21-11 entering the final frame.

Gracie Garner initiated the fourth period with a man-up goal 11 seconds in. The Comets answered just before Gahm secured a hat-trick with a pair of unbroken goals, adding another minutes later. In the final minute, Treinen tallied her fourth goal, but the Comets would ultimately close the game's scoring and set the final score at 26-16, Capital favoring.

- Gahm led the Colonels in goals with six, adding an assist. Treinen followed with four goals while Bott tallied three.
- Treinen led the team in ground balls with three.
- Botts led Centre off the circle with five draw wins.
- In goal,
Mary Haley and
Gracey Falk split time. Together the two tallied seven saves.
