Centre overwhelms Illinois Tech at home

DANVILLE, Ky.- The Centre women's lacrosse team returned to South Turf to host the Illinois Institute of Technology. Achieving running clock before halftime, the Colonels downed the Scarlet Hawks 23-6, improving to a 6-2 overall mark. 

HIGHLIGHTS
 - The Scarlet Hawks hastily opened the game's scoring with a goal a minute in, but the Colonels answered with a quad of unbroken goals. Emma Botts registered the first while Ella Treinen claimed the next. Rookie Riley Jackson followed with a successive pair to put Centre ahead by three. Midway through the frame, Illinois Tech caught traction with a pair of goals broken up by a score from Haley Rice. Just after, Botts opened a 4-0 scoring streak to close the period. With late goals from Lily Gahm, Addie Lewis, Rice, and Botts, Centre led 9-3 entering period two. 
- Treinen charged into the next frame with three straight goals, the third being her 100th career goal. Holding the Scarlet Hawks to just two points in the period, the game entered running clock before halftime.
- The Colonels continued to separate themselves in the second half, opening with four goals from Isa Stumpf, Ellie Macdonald, Mary Margaret Bryant, and Jackson. Illinois Tech registered a late point, but Gahm would ultimately close the quarter with a buzzer-beating goal, moving the score to 21-6.
- In the final period, the Scarlet Hawks were rendered scoreless. Tallying two goals from Botts and Gahm, the final was set at 23-6, Centre favoring.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Botts led the field in both goals and points. The senior scored five and assisted three. Treinen collected four while Jackson, Gahm, and Rice each claimed a hat-trick.
- Gahm fronted Centre in draw controls with seven. 
- In goal, Mary Haley and Gracey Falk evenly split time. Haley stopped five shots while Falk stuffed one. Together the unit completed 14-15 clears.
- The Colonels favored in shots, ground balls, clears, draw controls, and free-position goals.

Women's lacrosse will hit the road for a three-game road series. They'll face SAA's Hendrix this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
