ROME, Ga.- The Centre men's lacrosse traveled to Berry for their first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest of the 2024 campaign. Although taking the early lead, the Colonels suffered an 8-7 loss to the Vikings, moving to a 6-2 overall mark and 0-1 in the league.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The game's scoring opened early when Centre's
Max Speers connected with
Ryan Black a minute in. Nearing the midway mark, the Vikings tallied their first point, adding a second in the following possession. Closing the period with a late score, Berry favored by two entering the next frame.
- The Colonels stole the lead early with a 3-0 scoring run initiated by
Ridr Knowlton. Black claimed the next during a man-up opportunity followed by an even score from
Ben Hubbs. Berry hit back with a pair of goals but were matched with a duo from
Paxton Brown and
Noah Malubay. With each team registering one additional point before halftime, the score was halted at 6-6.
- Out of the break, both teams struggled to finish their shots. The first goal wasn't registered until four minutes to go in the frame when Berry tallied two successive points. With Centre being held scoreless, the Vikings led 8-6 entering the final 15-minutes.
- The Colonels owned the singular goal of the fourth quarter, Black placing it 90 seconds. With neither team notching another goal, the final was set at Berry eight, Centre seven.

- In goal,
Hayden Burns and
Sammy Zickel split time. Together the two stopped nine of the Viking's shots.
- Centre scored in both of their extra-man opportunities.
