Second-half drought dooms Centre

ROANOKE, Va.- Centre men's lacrosse continued their spring break road series with a trip to Virginia. Facing the Roanoke Maroons, the Colonels suffered a 17-6 loss, moving to a 6-3 overall record. 

HIGHLIGHTS
 - The Colonels placed two goals in the initial 15-minutes of play. Paxton Brown claimed the first early while Ryan Black notched his with three minutes to go. Separating themselves in the opening frame, the Maroons led 7-2 entering the second period. 
- Roanoke opened the next quarter but Black answered during a man-up opportunity in the following possession. David Caldwell later cut the deficit to four with an unassisted goal. Now in the crease for Centre, Hayden Burns halted the Maroons to just three goals in the frame, moving the score to 9-4 heading into halftime.  
- Out of the break, Roanoke made a flurry, outscoring the Colonels 4-0 over the next 15 minutes. Rendered scoreless, Centre trailed 13-4 entering the final quarter of play.
- The Maroons further separated themselves with a 2-0 scoring run to start the last period. After nearly a 30-minute scoring drought from the Colonels, Davis Wilmes joined the scoring column with an unassisted goal. Miguel Sayers later got on the board with a second unassisted goal. Sayers' point was the last goal for Centre as Roanoke extended their lead to the final margin of 17-6.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Black led the Colonels offensively with two goals. Brown, Wilmes, Sayers, and Caldwell collected one goal apiece. 
- Dylan Croft tied for the game's leader in 50/50 balls with five. 
- In goal, Ramsay Cole and Burns split time. Together the two stopped 16 shots. 
- Centre completed 15-17 clears while Roanoke went 23-24. 
- The Colonels favored at the face-off as Dylan Croft and Caden Canzano went 16-27 as a unit.

The Colonels will travel south to face Birmingham-Southern on March 24th, at 12 p.m. ET.
