Late scoring surge pushes Centre past Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga.- The women's lacrosse team traveled to Georgia to face Piedmont for a non-conference contest. After a fourth-quarter scoring surge, the Colonels downed their opponent 15-13 to improve to an 8-2 overall record.

HIGHLIGHTS
 - The Lions got off to a hot start, going up 5-0 on the Colonels in the opening frame.
- Centre caught traction with a 2-0 scoring run to initiate the next quarter. Sophia Richardson claimed the Colonels' first goal during a woman-up opportunity 20-seconds in. Haley Rice tallied the next goal with the helper from Richardson herself. Piedmont his back with four unanswered goals before Emma Botts could open a 3-0 run for Centre. Addie Lewis' score was next followed by Ella Treinen's last minute goal. Heading into halftime, the score was momentarily set at 9-5, Piedmont favoring. 
- The momentum began to sway in Centre's favor early in the second half. Gracie Garner opened the scoring with help from Lily Gahm who followed with her own free-position goal 90-seconds later. After burning a time-out, the Lions hit back with a trio of unanswered points. Richardson broke the run, simultaneously opening a mini streak for Centre. With an additional point following from Garner, the Gold & White trailed by three entering the final frame.
- Centre's fourth period was their best yet, opening with a free-position score from Gahm. With six minutes remaining in regulation, Lewis, Gahm, and Botts tallied a trio of unbroken goals to tie it up at 13-13. In the game's final 40 seconds, Treinen registered the game winning goal after connecting with Rice. Not finished there, Isa Stumpf closed the game with an additional score to solidify the final at Centre 15, Piedmont 13. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gahm fronted Centre in goals with three while Treinen, Garner, Lewis, Richardson, and Botts registered two each.
- Rice led the field in assists with three.
- In goal, Gracey Falk stopped 11 shots while guiding Centre to 14-24 clears.
- The Colonels favored in 50/0 balls, scooping 17 to the Lions' 15.

The Colonels will travel for their next competition, SAA's Oglethorpe. The two squads will meet on March 23rd at 11 a.m. ET.
