DANVILLE, Ky. – One of the final weekends of non-conference play for Centre softball started on a high note as the Colonels topped Hanover College by scores of 6-1 and 9-1 on Friday night.
The Gold & White moved to 9-14 on the season with the sweep of the Panthers.
GAME ONE: Centre 6, Hanover 1
- It was slow going to start the first contest for both teams. Despite having singles from Izzy Rushing and Morgan Tabor in the first inning and one from Rylie Bentley in the second, no runs came for Centre.
- An RBI single scored the first run of the game in the top of the third for Hanover.
- The bottom of the sixth was the game changer for the Colonels. Rushing walked, after a ground out, to be the first Centre batter on base in the frame. Tabor followed and hit an RBI double to tie the game. Back-to-back fielder's choices scored one runner each for the Gold & White after an Emily Lammers single.
- Two more runs came across in the bottom of the sixth frame thanks to consecutive bases-loaded walks. A Rushing single to center field scored the sixth and final run of the game for the Colonels to secure the 6-1 win.
- Gregory hit another single in the fifth, this time to center field, in hopes of getting some momentum for the Gold & White. Rylie Bentley had the final hit of the game in the seventh frame with a double to right field, but it was not enough as the Colonels fell 1-0 in the first contest.
- Andrea Searcy was in the circle all seven innings for Centre. She struck out eight batters while only allowing one run on four hits. Friday marked the eighth time this season the senior has allowed one or fewer earned runs.
GAME TWO: Centre 9, Hanover 1 (5 innings)
- After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Colonels lit up the scoreboard. A Madalyn Irwin single plated the freshman after Rushing walked. Cheney Floyd followed with a double that scored one. Another double, courtesy of Tabor, scored another Gold & White runner.
- Lammers ended the scoring streak with a bang as the sophomore hit a home run over the left field fence that scored three Centre runners.
- The Lexington, Ky. native was not done impressing yet. Lammers opened the bottom of the third with a solo HR that made the lead 6-1 in favor of the home squad.
- Rushing joined the RBI party with a single in the bottom of the third fame moving the score to 7-1 for Centre.
- Back-to-back doubles ended the scoring for the Gold & White. Kaylee Gregory and Bentley hit consecutive RBI doubles which made the final score 9-1 in the run-rule win.
- Mia Tomillo earned her first pitching win of the season after three and one-third innings of work. She struck out two and allowed no earned runs. Lucy Baseheart pitched the final one and two-thirds innings and struck out three while allowing no runs or hits.
