Fourth-quarter push carries Colonels past Pioneers

LEXINGTON, Ky.- On Wednesday, the Colonels traveled up the road to face instate foe, Transylvania. After a close contest the entire way, Centre's fourth-quarter rally bettered the Pioneers 8-7. 
 
The Gold & White improve to an 8-3 overall record and 1-1 in the league.

HIGHLIGHTS
 - Both teams found ample offensive opportunities in the opening 15-minutes. Transylvania initiated the scoring early while the Colonels found their first goal midway through in Paxton Brown. David Caldwell doubled the deficit a minute later with the assist from Ridr Knowlton. By the close of the opening period, each squad claimed two additional goals. After one period, Centre possessed a one goal lead thanks to Caldwell's hat-trick.  
- Scores came early in the second period, Transy opening a minute in, Centre's Ryan Hall answering seconds later. The Colonels wouldn't tally another goal before half, but the Pioneers claimed one additional to make it a tied game at 5-5 entering the break. 
- Out of halftime, both teams suffered a 15-minute, scoreless, stalemate. With neither team finding the back of the net, the score remained tied entering the final frame. 
- Centre's Ryan Black concluded the Colonels' 28-minute scoring drought with a goal a minute in. Caldwell further stretched Centre's hold with his fourth goal while Brown tallied the Colonels' third unbroken goal to close the early rally. Seven minutes in, the momentum began to swing in Transy's favor. The Pioneers netted two successive to come within one but when time ran out, the Colonels bettered their instate foe 8-7, improving to an 8-3 overall record.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Caldwell doubled all athletes in goals with four. Brown followed, tying for second best with two.
- Graham Robbins fronted Centre in caused turnovers with three.
- At the face-off, Dylan Croft dominated with 15-19 wins. The senior added nine ground balls, more than tripling all other athletes.
- In goal, Ramsay Cole and Hayden Burns split time. Together the pair stopped seven shots and conducted Centre to 22-25 clears. 
- The Colonels more than doubled the Pioneers in ground balls with 21 to their eight.

UP NEXT
Centre men will travel south for their next contest. They'll face SAA's Oglethorpe this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
