DANVILLE, Ky. – Two hard-fought contests for Centre softball on the Saturday both went the way of visiting Birmingham-Southern in the form of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) losses of 13-7 and 8-3.
After the doubleheader, the record for the Colonels moved to 12-22 overall and 4-10 in league play.
GAME ONE: BSC 13, Centre 7
- The first lead of the series was secured by the Panthers. BSC used a four-run performance in the top of the second inning to go up early.
- Centre cut the lead in half immediately. With
Emily Lammers on base after a single, and moving to second on a wild pitch,
Cheney Floyd hit and RBI double.
Hailey Watson then hit an RBI single to make the lead 4-2.
- Five Birmingham-Southern runners crossed home in an explosive third inning.
- The Gold & White added single runs in the next two frames.
Kaylee Gregory and
Andrea Searcy hit back-to-back singles, after a lead-off foul out, to set up two on base in the bottom of the third. A Lammers single scored one.
Layne Ogle was sent home in the fourth thanks to a
Morgan Tabor double.
- BSC added two more runs as the game moved to the sixth inning. Another Tabor double answered those runs as the sophomore notched two RBI.
- Each team added one more run in the late going of the 13-7 win for the Panthers.
-
Kaylee Gregory was the starting pitcher for Centre and went two innings.
Andrea Searcy pitched the final five frames and struck out six.
GAME TWO: BSC 8, Centre 3
- Birmingham-Southern built a sizable 8-0 lead going into the fifth inning of action. The visiting team held the home squad to no hits until the fourth frame when Gregory hit a single to right field.
- The Colonels avoided the run rule with a strong fifth inning. With
Rylie Bentley on second base after a fielder's choice and an Ogle single, Tabor hit a double to center that scored Bentley.
- Two more runs scored in the next at bat as Gregory hit a two-RBI single to cut the lead to 8-3. Another single for Gregory came in the seventh but was not enough to rally the Gold & White.
-
Mia Tomillo got the start in the circle for Centre and went an inning and a third.
Lucy Baseheart finished the final five and two-thirds innings and struck out two.
