DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball honored its seniors in style with a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) DH sweep of Sewanee on Saturday. The Colonels won 11-10 in the first game and 7-0 in the second.

GAME ONE: Centre 11, Sewanee 10 (10 innings)
- The first tilt was a runs and hits extravaganza through six innings. The Tigers got the scoring started with an RBI single in the top of the first. It was a double from
Morgan Tabor in the bottom of that frame, after
Layne Ogle reached on an error, that brought the first Colonel home.
-
Rylie Bentley gave the Colonels their first lead of the day with a two-RBI home run to center field in the top of the second. The fireworks continued with a two-RBI single from Ogle scoring two more and an
Emily Lammers double sending one more Centre runner home.
- Sewanee must have been inspired by that offensive burst as they answered back with six runs in the third inning to reclaim a one-run lead.
- The Gold & White took the lead back in the fourth inning thanks to a double from
Andrea Searcy that sent three Centre runners across home plate.
- A run in the fifth and two in the sixth put the Tigers up by two runs with regulation coming close to an end.
Cheney Floyd answered back in the bottom of the inning and hit an RBI double which scored
Caroline Unruh.
- It was gridlocked from that point all the way until the 10th inning, as the offensive attacks slowed from the frenetic pace of the early innings.
-
Abby Duncan proved the extra-innings hero as she hit a single to the pitcher that scored a courtesy-running Floyd to lock up the 11-10 win.
-
Lucy Baseheart got the start in the circle for Centre and went five and two thirds innings. She struck out six batters and walked just one.
Mia Tomillo went the final four and a third innings and earned the win. She allowed no runs and just one hit.
GAME TWO: Centre 7, Sewanee 0
- The Colonels struck first in the second contest in the bottom of the second inning. After a single from
Kaylee Gregory and a double from Floyd, a Searcy sacrifice fly put a run on the board.
- It was the Colonels next on the board again when a
Sam Rogers double to left field scored two in the bottom ot the fourth. Immediately after Duncan hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.
- The next time at bat for the Gold and White led to the final three runs of the game.
Lydia Rice came in to pinch hit and scored Tabor who was on after she singled and Lammers doubled. Floyd was next and hit a double that scored Lammers. A Bentley sacrifice fly sent Rice home for the final run in the 7-0 win.
-
Andrea Searcy was dealing as the pitcher of record for Centre. She hurled the full seven innings and struck out six while allowing no runs on four hits.
