Softball topples Tigers to sweep series

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball is taking a four-game winning streak into the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament after sweeping the Sewanee series thanks to a 4-2 win on Sunday.

The Colonels finished the regular season 16-22 overall and 8-10 in the SAA.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre was the first to get a hit in the contest when Morgan Tabor hit a single to center field in the bottom of the first inning. Emily Lammers hit a single to left field in the next at bat, but neither runner was able to score in the frame.
- The Colonels had an excellent second inning. Andrea Searcy led off with a single to third base. Rylie Bentley was at bat next and was walked. After a line out, Hailey Watson hit a single to the shortstop to load the bases. With two outs on the board, Tabor came to the plate and hit a three-RBI double to right center field.
- It was not until the fifth inning that the Tigers put up a run. After a walk and two outs, A double scored the runner who walked to cut the lead to 3-1.
- The lead jumped back up to three in favor of the Gold & White in the bottom of the sixth. Lydia Rice lead off the inning and reached first on an error by the first baseman. A fielder's choice and a walk from Caroline Unruh, along with two outs, set up a runner in scoring position. Watson then hit a single to left field to score Bentley.
- Sewanee scored in the top of the seventh on an RBI single, but it was not enough as Centre took down the Tigers 4-2 to sweep the series
- Kaylee Gregory pitched a complete seven innings for the Colonels en route to the win. She struck out two batters and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits.
