Softball falls in SAA Tournament debut

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Centre softball fell 2-1 to Sewanee in the first game of the 2024 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Softball Tournament. The Colonels will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow in the double-elimination format.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre wasted no time in putting a run on the board. Layne Ogle led off the bottom of the first inning with a single which was followed by a Morgan Tabor single. A ground out from Gregory advanced the runners on base each before another ground out, off the bat of Emily Lammers scored Ogle.
- Sewanee was three up three down again in the top of the second, while the Colonels had a single from Sam Rogers in the bottom of the frame.
- The Tigers tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning on an RBI single.
- Centre had hits in the next two frames the team was at bat, a single from Floyd and an Ogle single, but no tuns came for the Gold & White. Sewanee tacked on what became the winning run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single.
- The Colonels had a chance to come back in the bottom of the seventh and did end up with a brief burst of offense as Abby Duncan hit a double. The offense did not pull things together and fell 2-1.
- Andrea Searcy went the full seven innings in the circle for the Gold & White. She struck out five batters and allowed two runs on five hits.
