DANVILLE, Ky.- On Sunday afternoon, the second seeded Centre women's lacrosse team hosted the third seeded Berry in the Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Semifinal game. After a close contest the entire way, Centre eliminated Berry with an identical score to their meeting in the regular season, winning 15-14.
The Gold & White will advance to the SAA Championship game on Sunday, Apr. 28
th in Memphis.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Vikings controlled the opening period, outscoring the Colonels 7-2 in the frame.
Haley Rice owned both of Centre's goals, the second being a free-position score. Trailing off with five unanswered points to close the quarter, Berry led by five entering period two.
- The Colonels initiated their comeback in the second quarter and by halftime, Centre trailed by one. Rookie
Sophia Richardson kick-started a crucial 5-1 scoring run for the good guys just two minutes in. Following goals from
Emma Botts brought Centre within two before Berry tallied their only goal of the period. Rice and
Ella Treinen teamed up for the Gold & White's final two goals of the half, adjusting the score to 8-7 entering the break.
- Out of halftime, Rice tied the game up with a free-position goal a minute in. Midway through the frame,
Lily Gahm joined the scoring column after netting the game winning goal, the goal that put Centre ahead for good. Just after, junior
Isa Stumpf caught fire. By herself, Stumpf outscored the Vikings with three goals to their two, handing the Colonels a two-point edge heading into the final 15-minutes.
- The final quarter was the closest of the game, Berry netting four while Centre placed three. Stumpf and Botts carried the Colonels offensively, Botts tallying one, Stumpf finishing two. Berry notched two late goals to come within one. In the final 30-seconds, Berry forced a turnover, driving it coast-to-coast in the hopes of tying it back up. With five seconds to go, Centre's
Mary Haley stuffed the Vikings' final shot attempt, securing the Colonels' 15-14 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stumpf led the field in both goals with five, tying for the game leader in points with six. Rice and Botts each claimed hat-tricks with three goals each.

Addie Lewis fronted Centre in draw control possessions with six.
- In goal, Haley tallied a career high of 14 saves. She conducted Centre's defense to 21-24 clears.
- The Colonels favored in clears, ground balls, and draw controls.
