DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball finished the non-conference portion of the 2024 season by splitting with Asbury University. The Colonels fell 2-1 in the first game and won 4-0 in the second.
The Gold & White sit at 12-20 overall heading into the final two weekend of the regular season.
GAME ONE: Asbury 2, Centre 1
- The Eagles wasted no time in scoring as they put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the first on a fielder's choice.
- An answer from the home team came in the bottom of the same frame. A
Morgan Tabor double, after
Layne Ogle walked and stole second, scored Ogle.
- After no hits or runs were registered by either team in the second or third, Asbury scored the game-winning run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly.
-
Andrea Searcy and
Rylie Bentley each tallied a hit in the bottom of the fourth as the Gold & White attempted a rally.
-
Kaylee Gregory hit a single in the bottom of the sixth, with the score at 2-1, but she was the final Colonel to reach base in the setback.
-
Lucy Baseheart got the start but was immediately subbed out and replaced by
Kaylee Gregory. Gregory then went the full seven innings. She struck out five and allowed two runs.
GAME TWO: Centre 4, Asbury 0
- It was Centre who struck early in the final contest of Saturday. Tabor got the first hit of the game with a single to left field. She was out on a fielder's choice that plated Gregory. Searcy was next and hit a triple that scored Gregory, followed by Searcy coming home on a passed ball.
- Up 2-0, after the Eagles went three up and three down in the second, the Colonels scored two more in the bottom of the second.
Izzy Rushing doubled to lead off the inning and Bentley followed that with a single. An error from the Asbury second baseman tallied a run for Rushing.
- The final run of the game came with the bases loaded. Tabor hit a single to center field that sent Bentley in.
- Centre's defense limited the Eagles to just three more hits. Even more impressive was the fact that the Gold & White did not surrender any hits after the fourth inning.
-
