DANVILLE, Ky. - A tight battle at Amend Field on Friday night ended with the Centre women's soccer team in a 1-1 draw with visiting Hope College, who they drew 1-1 with last season as well.
Both squads began their seasons with a 0-0-1 record thanks to the stalemate.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
-The Colonels fell behind early as the Flying Dutch netted a score in the second minute of the first half. Keeper
Grace Dutcher and the Centre defense rallied and stopped the three additional shots that came from hope in the first.
- In the 42nd minute the Colonels tied things up at 1-1.
Claire Cavacini took a ball off a free kick in the right side of the goal area and put it into the back of the left side of the goal. It was the final score of the 1-1 match.

Claire Cavacini's goal was the first of her collegiate career. The freshman from Fort Thomas, Ky. came off the bench in the win.
- Centre led in shots in the second half by one (6-5) and had five shots on goal.
- Cavacini led all players in shots with three, which were all on goal, while
Alexis Kronenthal tallied two attempts. Newcomers
Mary Martin Hampton and
Ashlyn Miles, as well as senior
Isabella Marcum, each took one shot.
- Two keepers split time evenly for the Colonels.
Grace Dutcher got the start and made three saves while
Anna Thomas played the full second half and also had three saves.
- Centre had a large margin in corner kicks with four to Hope's one.

The Colonels hit the road next to face No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis. That match is set for a 12 p.m. start on Saturday.
