Colonels' late goal betters Marian 1-0

FOND DU LAC, Wis.– On Saturday afternoon, the Centre field hockey team traveled north for a weekend tilt in Wisconsin. Facing Marian in game one, the Colonels placed a late goal in the fourth to defeat the Sabres by a score of 1-0. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS  
- The scored remained even at 0-0 after the opening frame, the Gold & white favoring in shots on goal with six compared to the Sabres' three. 
- Mimicking the first period, the second quarter continued the even stalemate. Although leading in offensive possessions and corners, the Colonels were stifled by Marian's nine saves in the opening half. 
- Out of halftime, the deadlock continued. Centre favored in saves thanks to Carlie McKenry who delivered two necessary stops in the final minute of the quarter. Heading into the fourth period, the scoreboard continued to show a tie at 0-0.
- The first and only goal of the game came in the final two minutes of the contest. Centre's Maggie Will set in the game winner during a corner opportunity, finding the assist from Olivia Ruth. With the late score, the Colonels bettered their opponent by a score of 1-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE  
- Will recorded the game's only goal while Ruth registered the singular assist.
- Centre favored in shots with 14 compared to Marian's ten. 
- The Colonels dominated in corner opportunities with nine to the Sabres' two.
- In goal, McKenry tallied seven saves in her 60-minutes of play.

Centre field hockey will remain in Wisconsin to face CFHC's Concordia for a designated non-conference game on Sunday, Sept. 22nd.
