Late match heroics push Colonels to win

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – A goal with less than 10 minutes left allowed Centre men's soccer to escape future conference member Maryville College with a 1-0 win on Sunday. 

The Colonels are holders of a 7-1-1 record after the win while the Scots fell to 2-5-2 on the squad's home pitch. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS   
- Centre out shot Maryville 10-9 in the first half but neither team could put those attempts in the net. There was also an even tally of five corners for each team in the scoreless opening frame. 
- In the 81st minute the Colonels got the job done. Centre pressured the Scots in their defensive half and got the ball back. Alec McAlister sent a pass to Jafet Figueroa who played it ahead to Drew Davidson who sent the ball into the right corner of the net for the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE   
- Drew Davidson's goal was his second game winner of the season. He has four goals as the Colonels are set to enter conference play. 
- Alec McAlister's assist was his fifth of the season while Jafet Figueroa's was his fourth. 
- The 18 shots the Colonels took were the second-most in a match this season. The same is true for the eight shots on goal that came from the Gold & White. 
- Centre led in shots 18-16 and shots on goal 8-5. The Colonels are had 10 corner kicks to the Scots' seven. 
- Possession was also a key stat for the Gold & White. Centre held possession of the ball for 56 percent of the match.  
- Freshman Grayson Parish got his first collegiate start in goal. The Paducah, Ky. native stopped four shots over 90 minutes. 

UP NEXT   
The Colonels open Southern Athletic Association action on Sunday. Oglethorpe travels to Amend Field on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. conference tilt.
