DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre volleyball hosted the Asbury Eagles in a midweek in-state matchup that went the distance. Although the Colonels took the first two sets, they were unable to slow down the momentum of the Eagles in the final three as they fell 3-2.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels had to battle from behind for much of the opening set, finally taking the lead at 15-14 on a tandem block by
Mack Turner and
Hollye Tate. From there, the Eagles tied it a couple of times, but Centre never relinquished the lead, winning 25-20.
- The second set belonged to Centre from the jump. The Colonels outscored Asbury 10-1 in the early moments and led by as many as 17 at 23-6 before eventually winning 25-10 on a kill from Turner.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion as the first, with Asbury grabbing the early lead. Only this time, the Eagles kept Centre at bay, never letting go of the lead and winning a close one by a score of 25-22.
- Asbury pulled away in the middle of the fourth set to turn a close game into a 25-16 victory, and then controlled the fifth set from the start as they won by a score of 15-8 to complete the comeback.

Syd Bietz led the Colonels with 14 kills, followed by
Abby Swartz with 13 and Turner and
Delia Long with ten each.

Emily Gardner led the way for Centre with 50 assists, matching Asbury's team assist total.

June Padilla paced all players with 24 digs, with
Emersyn Pannell and
Madi Winfield each finishing in double digits.

The Colonels will hit the road this weekend for a pair of conference matches, beginning with a trip to Rhodes on Saturday.
