LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Centre women's soccer squad won the first game of its 2024 campaign with a 2-1 showing over the Scots of Maryville College in the first game of the Covenant College Tournament.
The Colonels record is an even 1-1-1 three matches into the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Scots struck first in the game. With just 3:05 off the clock Maryville tallied a goal to take an early lead.
- A foul in the box by the Scots gave the Gold & White a penalty kick 35 minutes into the first half.
Lydia Bowling took the shot for Centre and evened the match at 1-1.
- The Colonels struck once again in the 79th minute.
Josie Bencic sent a ball to the right to a waiting
Olivia Bretz. The sophomore then took a long shot that squeaked into the goal behind the opposing keeper.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both goal scorer's for Centre tallied their first goals of the season.
Olivia Bretz's goal was the transfer's first in the Colonel colors.

Josie Bencic's assist was the first of her young collegiate career.
- Centre dominated on the offensive side of the ball with 18 shots to Maryville's nine. The Colonels also had five shots on goal to their opponents three.

Anna Thomas split time in goal evenly with 45 minutes in goal each.
