Women victorious at Colonel Classic, men second

DANVILLE, Ky. – The 23rd annual Colonel Classic, the first in Champions Hall, was an eventful weekend for Centre swimming & diving as the women won and the men took second on a snowy weekend in Kentucky. 
 
The Colonel women finished the meet with a score of 1103 in their win. The Centre men concluded the event with 806.5 points. 

The women's side had the most successful two days of the Colonel squads with three relay wins and five individual event wins. Katelynn Stanczyk led the way as she was a member of all three relay wins and picked up a victory in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.26. 

The first winning relay was the 200 freestyle relay and Stanczyk, Whitney Dollins, Olivia Headley, and Callie West took first with a combined time of 1:40.10. The relay wins kept coming as Stanczyk, Headley, and West teamed up again, this time with Avery Gabbard, to win the 800 freestyle relay (8:05.35). The final freestyle relay, the 400 was another Centre win, with Stanczyk, Headley, West, and Katie Bridwell winning in 3:40.76. 

West added an individual win in the 200 IM in 2:11.27 while Cate Coartney took the 400 IM in 4:47.52.  Sarah Feild continued her winning ways in the 1650 freestyle with a wall touch in 18:20.44. 

Erin Dannemiller earned a diving win for the Colonels in the one-meter dive. She tallied a score of 253.19. 

The Centre men swept the competition on the boards at the Colonel Classic. Avery Balch earned the top podium spot in the three-meter dive with a score of 240.75. Rowan Fitzsimmons won the one-meter event with a tally of 252.97.  

Brady Miller added two more wins for the Colonels. The freshman phenom won the 500 freestyle in 4:42.96 and the 1650 freestyle in 16:23.93. 
   
UP NEXT  
The Colonels return to the pool in less than a week to host Transylvania and the University of the Cumberlands. That meet is set for Friday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Champions Hall.
